How do I access the car park?

We have automatic gates into The Shipgate car park, you will be provided with a fob which opens the gate automatically on approach. There is also a code panel at the bottom of the ramp which opens the gate.

When you buy a property, or rent one, you should be provided with two key fobs. Simply position the fob near the locks on the gates and they will open.

Please ensure the gates close after you, so they remain secure for everyone else.

Can I store anything in my parking space?

tems can be stored in your car park space, as long as they are safe and do not encroach on any other space.

They must be kept inside a metal storage container or cabinet to comply with fire regulations.

Can I buy, sell or rent a parking space?

Yes! We already have spaces rented to people who do not live at The Shipgate. If you wish to sell or let out a parking space the usual selling and rental agents are fine. There are already residents who would like to buy a space if you have one to sell!

Can commercial vehicles park on Shipgate Street?

Commercial vehicles can park on Shipgate street. However, no resident or visitors can.

You can apply for a permit for workers you employ if you require parking for furniture removers or work by builders, glaziers, plumbers, electricians or gas workers.

If you apply for a permit online the council requires 24hr notice. You can also go into The Forum in Chester Centre in person and get a permit on the day. Currently the cost is £10 per day. You can apply and see full details on the council website.

Where can visitors park?

Most of the time a neighbour will step in with a spare space, if you ask around in time and someone plans to be away.

However parking is limited in Chester centre and the closest car park to The Shipgate is The Little Roodee. It's a 4 minute walk away alongside the River Dee and Chester Castle.

The path is completely flat for those pulling suitcases and the car park is open 24 hrs a day, with some campervans staying there overnight. It costs £8 for a stay over 12 hours. Info for Sat Navs:
